Sharpen a Knive With a Car Window

To touch up the edge on my fillet or hunting knife when I'm not at home, I use the ground edge of a door window on my truck. I sharpen the blade just as I would if I were using a whetstone. This restores a razor edge to the knife every time.

Sharpen a Knife without Scratching the Blade

To prevent scratching the finish on the blade when I sharpen a knife, I apply masking tape to both sides of the blade. Once I’m finished sharpening, I just remove the tape and wipe the blade with an old rag. This really helps with knives that have been blued.

Reader Tip of the Day: Keep Your Knife on Your Belt

Run an old shower curtain hook through the belt loop of your knife sheath and through your pants belt loop to prevent your knife from sliding off your unbuckled belt.
