Discussion Topic: Chicago Burb Shoots Down Gun Ban

From NBC Chicago News:

Despite pleas from residents gathered at a town hall meeting Tuesday night, Winnetka officials voted to repeal a 20-year ban on handguns. A Supreme Court ruling in June declared that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms.

In September, three Winnetka residents and the National Rifle Association sued the village, stating that the local ban violated their rights protected by the Constitution. . . .

Council members said they feared if they didn't repeal the ordinance it would cost the suburb thousands of dollars to fight the suit with the real risk of still losing in court.

Well it was preventing them from owning their guns.

He looked and saw that it was good.

(Even though the weasels repealed it because of the expense of litigation and the Big Loser forecast - not because they believe citizens have the right to possess handguns.)

They'll be back - looking for a way to regulate since an outright ban has been taken out of their toybox.

Outstanding. Anyone who feels that they must live in a community that has no regard for the 2nd Amendment is free to immigrate to pretty much anywhere else any time they want to leave.

Thank God, even if it was for the wrong reasons and these people have their heads up their asses.

Now they will just do like NYC and DC and make it SO friggin painful to get the permit that most people won't even bother!

It's about time somebody grew a pair in this state.
These three residents refuse to hide in their closets and are willing to do whatever it takes to protect their home & their loved ones.
Just ask Winnetka resident Hale DeMar.
He can tell youse all about it.

The anticipated expense of litigation has been the downfall of many a hunting and fishing opportunity here in CA, and in many other states as well. State, county, and city governments have always quaked in their boots and caved like a hole in the beach at the threat of a lawsuit.

It's nice to see the tables turned, and the tactic working for good for a change.

People that suffer from fusilophobia (my word to describe an irrational fear of firearms) will not rest until all firearms are banned, outlawed, or whatever. They feel no moral restraint about banning something that we as citizens choose to enjoy legally, and in a safe manner.

I love when you say the firearms are for protecting your homes and your families. could it be because you are crazy rednecks that need guns to compensate for your lack of being a real man. what if somebody shot you? hell you will probably shake there hand and thank them for being an american and that they did nothing wrong because afterall they could of been protecting themselves. get a life

Reply: Thank you, I also love that. Protecting self, home and family from not only criminals but also from government, IS an important part of the freedom we enjoy.

could it be because you are crazy rednecks that need guns to compensate for your lack of being a real man.
Reply: Please define for us what you consider a "real man". Us "crazy rednecks" would love to be enlightened.

what if somebody shot you? hell you will probably shake there hand and thank them for being an american and that they did nothing wrong because afterall they could of been protecting themselves.
Reply: Congratulations. Possibly the dumbest statement ever made by an internet troll. What if somebody shot me, well I wouldn't have waited for the police, or you, to do something about it. I'd have bled to death before you had the chance to start a government program to understand their reasons.

get a life
Reply: I have one thank you, and I'll defend it, as well as those around me, and anyone else who needs it. Including you.

Sorry to all the other JOHN's out there, that latest diatribe was from me.
Got in too big of a hurry.
