North Carolina Man Lands Record Cat With Barbie Rod

Barbie does it again. Back in January, a four-year-old Texas girl landed a 40-inch, 50-pound black drum on her very own Barbie Rod (see our previous coverage). Now, a 3-year-old girl’s grandpa has hauled in a 21-pound, 1-ounce state-record channel cat with one. Why grandpa and not the girl?

From the Rockingham News:
She said, ‘Papa, I gotta go potty. Hold my fishing rod,’” [David] Hayes said. “She wasn’t in the house a few seconds when the catfish took off with the bait.”

Or at least, that’s grandpa’s story.

Uh huh - c'mong Grandpa, let's hear the truth, now! Seriously, I had no idea those rods could even stand up to that kind of pull!

No kiddin!!!!!!!!!! Based on my experience barbie rods will break with anything bigger than panfish. 20lb 1oz sounds waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy toooo heavy for them things.

Amazing catch! Just one question though, did you name him Ken?
