Discussion Topic: Should Wardens Use Hidden Cameras on State Lands?
From ZDNet Government:
If you’ve been walking in the woods lately and felt someone watching you, maybe they were - via surveillance camera. In northwestern Minnesota, the Department of Natural Resources is using cameras hidden in the trees to catch scofflaws, reports the Associated Press. . . .
One of the offenders . . . claimed entrapment and invasion of privacy. However, the County District Court Judge ruled that the ATV owner had no expectation of privacy on land owned by the state, [and] that there was no entrapment . . . .
What do you think?
I just hope they don't start citing people for indecent exposure when their camera shows someone taking a leek. It is public property so therefore the right to privacy is not implied...but come on, hidden cameras? Maybe they'll catch the elusive big foot. Whatever...just another wonderful way to spend the taxpayer's money.

No expectation of privacy. That's Big Brother's new mantra. Cameras on stoplights and now the woods. When you enter Metropolitan Davidson County via interstate you are being recorded 24/7.

I would like to know how catching someone poaching or doing something wrong in the middle of a woods is going to help catch that person. Lets see, "Last week a man appox. 6' wearing jeans and driving a red fourwheeler was seen shooting at a wolf in section four of the blah blah blah. To me, the only real use a camera in a remote state forest would be is if it did catch a big foot. Maybe if there was a warden within a mile of the incident watching the video live. I guess I won't get that name and address tatoo on my forehead that I was saving up for.

Although I do enjoy my privacy also, if this is the lenths we must use to get illegal drugs off the streets where our children and familys live, then so be it. I would hope that all sportsman would take part in this effort and report all illegal activity sighted in our outdoor playgrounds.Remember ,it just might be you or a loved one to stumble up on this kind of situation and pay the ultimate price. Happy Hunting ,Hikeing and Fishing. Charlie
