Discussion Topic: Does Immigration Bill Threaten Gun Stores?

The U.S. Senate’s draft of an immigration reform bill, which is opposed by many conservatives yet strongly endorsed by President Bush, has been creating a lot of buzz in the news this week. According to an alert from the Gun Owners of America, the proposal not only amounts to an amnesty bill but is also anti-gun:

The current language in the amnesty bill . . . would essentially . . . threaten every gun store in America.

In Section 205, for example, all it takes for the employees of a gun shop (of five or more persons) to become a "criminal gang" is:

* For them to commit two or more violations of ANY federal felony gun offense -- which includes virtually all gun offenses, including paperwork violations; and

* For the anti-gunners to find that violating gun laws was a "primary purpose" of the group.

So let's say your local gun store sells two or three firearms to Mayor Bloomberg's thuggish agents under New York City's extraterritorial "sting" operations. Your gun shop is now a "criminal gang."

What do you think? Does this language “threaten every gun shop in America”?

Can't i hate the immagration bill simply because it is a bad law?

While that maybe a loophole in the law. I have a hard time beliving it would be used. Also the second clause to it says that the primary perpose of the group would have to be to break gun laws. I think they could easily say that their primary purpose was to sell guns and not violate laws and as such be exempt.

Still the law is bad the provision is bad the ambiguity is bad Prez, Bush is bad and amenesty for those law breakers is really bad.

First of all, what does ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS have to do with gun laws? They are two separate issues! Kick the illegals out of country so we can keep our money and tax dollars in America for use for "REAL AMERICANS" NOT SENT BACK TO MEXICO OR GUATAMALA OR NICARAGUA OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY. AMERICAN MONEY AND TAX DOLLARS SHOULDN'T SUPPORT OTHER COUNTRIES. WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE WHO ARE REAL AMERICANS THAT NEED THAT MONEY AND TAX DOLLARS RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA, LIKE THE ELDERLY, VETS OF ALL WARS, STRENTHENING OUR BORDERS AND MUCH MORE. Also, border patrol agents who guard our borders should be commended not "JAILED". I say, "NO AMNESTY WHAT SO EVER, KICK THEM ALL OUT BEFORE THEY DESTROY AMERICA"!

Kim, enough already. We all got your point that you have strong feelings and like to whine about those strong feelings. We're talking about guns and such here and if you need a soapbox for your immigration views go to another website. Why don't you tell the whole U.S. which spends more money on importing goods than exporting that you want money to stay here in the U.S? My point is we live in a global society where goods and money flow around the world. If this didn't happen the U.S. economy and capitalism as a whole would collapse. Not to mention if everyone was like you nobody would be sending any oil to the U.S. for production as well.

William,

I suggest you read the article about the 10,000 marijuana plants in Ohio. Illegals are turning this country into a warzone, and they should all be deported.
