Outdoor Participation Study: Survey says flyfishing is down 20 percent

According to the 2006 Outdoor Recreation Participation Study, released today by the Outdoor Industry Foundation (OIF), 161.6 million Americans participated in active outdoor recreation last year—some 2 million more than in 2004. Flyfishermen, however, didn’t account for any of that increase, as their participation dropped by 20 percent. What’s more, outings by fishermen of any kind decreased by some 300,000, according to the study. So, for better or worse, you may find a little more elbow room on your local stream these days.
