Deadly Bass Tourney? 582 fish found belly-up after Wisconsin event

After higher-than-normal fish mortality following last year’s tournament, and as part of an ongoing study, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources clipped the tail fins of the more than 2,000 bass caught and released during this year’s Wal-Mart FLW Stren Series Bass Fishing Tournament, held in La Crosse from July 12 to 15. Only days later, fisheries officials found 582 bass floating belly-up in area waters. Lo and behold, more than 98 percent of them had clipped tail fins. Some anglers are pointing the finger back and the DNR, but the evidence seems to speak for itself.
