Some Political Notes

Does anyone remember Martha Mitchell? She was the wife of John Mitchell, who was Attorney General under Richard Nixon and went to prison for his involvement in Watergate. As the coverup started to unravel, Martha would get a few drinks in her and start calling newspapers with all sorts of interesting stuff about who was lying about what, and it got so bad that her husband allegedly had her sedated and kept prisoner in a motel room.
Bill Clinton seems to be rapidly going out of control, and if Hillary becomes the nominee for Vice President,  we may see Secret Service agents tailing him with a hypodermic needle. What worked on Martha Mitchell may also quiet down Bubba. It's worth a try; nothing else has succeeded so far.

In 1992, Clinton's opponent for president was George H.W. Bush, who was viewed by a considerable number of gun supporters as too moderate, and they withheld their votes. This contributed to eight years of Clintons in the White House. John McCain has his weak spots as far as the Second Amendment is concerned, but he is infinitely better than Obama.

Now that Hillary has morphed into Annie Oakley it might be helpful to see what she thought before she became the Shooter's Best Pal:

"I will work to reinstate the assault weapons ban….I will also work to make sure that police departments get access to federal information that will enable them to track illegal guns…." 4/16/08

"I believe that every new handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry…." 6/2/00

"[after Columbine] Bill and I announced a proposal to raise the legal age of handgun ownership to 21, and limit purchases of handguns to one a month."  11/1/03

And from Barack Obama:

"…I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right…" 4/16/08

"I think it is a scandal that this president [Bush] did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons bill." 10/21/04

Martin Luther King was a man of the Lord first and a civil rights activist and leader second. He inspired many to act based on faith and a renewed sense of right and wrong.

Obama is a reflection of what is wrong in this great nation - - letting the few lead the rest of us around by the noses just because they are somehow an elevated "victim" class. He won't fix anything the Chicago machine doesn't tell him to do. He is just a cheap suit in front of screaming liberals in the DNC led by the likes of Howard Dean.

He would be wise to not pick Hillary as a VP. She has already remebered and referenced the Kennedy assassination.....

I'm glad Audie Murphy and T. Whelen (See Above) are for Obama. He will need all the dead people the Dems can round up to vote for him since many of us can smell the difference.

Walt Smith

I can see it now, Hillary is chosen as Obama's running mate, he win's in November, she and Bill hire their old Sweetwater hitman to take out Obama and presto she's the president and Bill's dipping cigars again. We all start hiding our guns in 8inch pvc tubes buried as deep as we can dig a hole and we all wonder what the #*@!! happened again!! Please- everyone pull your and your neighbors head out and vote for McCain.

Someone asked if anyone remembered what what day it is today. Other than Rush, I haven't heard a word out of the media about what happened 64 years ago. But that's not surprising. Those guys really were of "The Greatest Generation". We owe them a debt of gratitude we can never, ever repay.
As far as this upcoming election is concerned, while I'm not real happy with McCain, I'll probably vote for him for one reason and one reason only. Supreme Court nominees. One of the few good things I can say about Junior is his pics for the USSC. Even his old man managed to screw that up. If you want to have trouble sleeping tonight, just think about what you're gonna get if BO is elected.

Bubba Islam

You guys make a lot of sense. Great insight into the first 10 amendments to the constitution. Who needs Harvard Law! I'll take 6th grade any day!

Anybody named Bubba or Islam can kiss my grits!

National Public Radio did an all day salute to veterans today in honor of D-Day, it was inspiring! Might see if you can get the podcast. I was disappointed in Rush's coverage.

Not only do most of you worry too much, you musta been sniffing the solvent again.

If anybody got where they got because he was a "legacy," it's the current President. I'm sure Sen. McCain's family ties helped with Annapolis, too.

Don't forget, Barack's Mom was a Caucasian lady from Kansas. You guys write about him like he's from Mars. And the way you rag on his tax proposals. Sweet creeping hominy! Have you ever thought about what happens when the Feds cut your tax bill? The state and local guys raise it because they ain't getting the Fed money anymore.

If you were Pinkos, I'd offer to help y'all pack for Canada if he's elected.

I mean it. I'm voting for Barack and going into the woods not long after, completely confident he'll do a fine job. Good golly, after what GWB has done to the Bill of Rights, you'd think you guys would give a man who ain't even elected yet the benefit of the doubt.

Jim in Mo.

I think your just trying to stir us up.
Is your surname Heavy by any chance?

Blue Ox

I believe we're screwed no matter who gets into the oval office. I know it's kind of a crappy outlook, but I just don't know how else to see it.

F*** all of 'em, I'm voting Libertarian. And Obama won't run Hillary as his VP if he has a lick of sense. She will Grassy Knoll him as soon as he takes the oath of office.

John Dean

Amen gman!

And from Barack Obama:

"…I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right…" 4/16/08

Can I get a big loud "HUH?" from everyone. At least Yogi Berra's malapropisms make some sense! This drivel just shows how little respect BHO has for the intelligence of the American electorate -- let's pray that he is wrong!

DEP is right about the second best way to shut WHC up though (first is a chubby gal in a blue dress on her knees).

Combine the current economic situation with Bush's low approval rating and it will be difficult for McCain to win. Hopefully Obama will piss enough people off in the swing states between now and November to give McCain the job. I wonder if people relise how far off the founding fathers beliefs Obama is.

Clay Cooper

I’m willing to bet that Shrillary is staying in the race and demanding to be so close hoping something tragic like an assassination would happen to Obama and I really will not put it past the Clintons. Maybe the Clinton Witch Doctors and extraterrestrial friends lost their Joba’Doo?

Blue Ox

If only the founding fathers could see the monster their creation has become. They're spinning in their graves already.

This is one of Obama's latest, and earlier:
"As president, I'm gong to make sure we know if guns are being sold by unscrupulous gun dealers not abiding by existing laws." (if he knows they arn't abiding by existing laws, then why aren't they arrested?")

In 1999, Mr. Obama urged enactment of a federal law prohibiting the operation of any gun store within five miles of a school or park. This would eliminate gun stores from almost the entire inhabited portion of the United States.
As a state senate candidate in 1996, Mr. Obama endorsed a complete ban on all handguns in a questionnaire. The Obama campaign has claimed he "never saw or approved the questionnaire," and that an aide filled it out incorrectly. But a few weeks ago, Politico.com found an amended version of the questionnaire. It included material added in Mr. Obama's handwriting.

Sorry, but the references don't go thru. Guess that's why I don't usually see any here! Too bad! Check out the first on Black Bear Blog and the second on Reuters.com

Refresh my memory yooperjack--what qualifications did "W" have?

I find it hard to believe that people here, that elected "W", then re-elected him, would so readily offer advice on who NOT to elect! How could some be so arrogant?!

"Uniter, not a divider"? "Washington outsider"? "Mission accomplished"?

AT least he hasn't taken our guns.......but the cost to shoot them is going thru the roof.

McCain and Obama are both really TERRIBLE!!!!!! Obama for all the reasons stated above me. McCain is an Economic nightmare! He doesn't have a clue, the one thing Obama has on McCain is that yeah he'll raise your taxes to pay for the new stuff he'll add (which I DO NOT AGREE WITH WE NEED TO REPEAL THE 16th AMENDMENT!) where as McCain will cut some taxes BUT keep expanding the Federal GOvt. at the rate it is now. Also if you think McCain is a conservative because of the war and tax cuts (without spending cuts), your wrong. HIs views on immigration, the Firtst Amendment, his Second Amendment view isn't all that conservative, he "crosses the aisle" and thats just spineless, stand up for your ideas, if they are good ideals people will LISTEN. BlueOX is right when he said that the founding fathers are rolling in thier graves, hell they've probably augered themselves to china by now with all the spinning thier doin! John McCain has zero understanding of the Constitution, if he had an understanding he would stop saying how much of a better "Commander in Chief" he'd be. Does HE not understand that he's running to be President not the "Comander in Chief". Article 2 section. 2 says the President shall be Commander in Chief only when the we are at war. Now we may be occupying another country, but technically the Iraq war ended after we found Saddam in his rabbit hole. Also technically it was never a war but a conflict because the president acted on his own accord and Congress did not DECLARE war. Makeing it no different than Bosnia or Kuwait, or Somalia or any other soveriegn nation we wanted to intervene with.
I"ll end now, by saying that if you want a real Conservative in the White House our best bet is to tell the Republicrats to go to hell and vote for the Libertarian Party Nominee Bob Barr, you know wasn't he the guy who led the Impeachment process on Bill Clinton. Read up on him you won't agree with everything but the stuff that you'll probably agree on are more important issues, and should take priority.
All the yard signs for Obamab and McCain should replace the word President with the word Dictator, Obama wants to baby you, and McCain just really wants all the power to be in his hands(more than GWB already has) so he can wage wars for the 100, wait no 1000 years, and BANKRUPT US!!!!!!

I think a few thoughts should be kept in mind from now until November. Obama grew up in the worst political climate in the US: the Chicago political machine. He is in no way to be trusted with any of our freedoms. Terrorism is not going to go away, nor is the hateful feelings most of the so called Islamic religious leaders have towards Americans. McCain served this country in the military and would be a better leader in times of danger to our overall freedoms. Obama is of the new breed of politician: interpret (change) the Constitution and Bill of Rights as you please. To A. Murphy and T. Whelan: peace and freedom is sometimes found only on the other side of war. The radical terrorists who hate the US and everything it stands for are at war with us whether you want it or not.

"...federal law prohibiting a gun store within 5 miles of a school...." What the hell would this do? I'm not worried about school children buying a gun near their school and commiting a crime, I'm more concerned about the drug addicts, illegal immigrants, etc. who buy guns off the street or trade drugs for them. When will the politicians wake up and realize that criminals do not walk into Cabela's or Gander Mountain, fill out a federal form, (that is supposed to eliminate criminals from acquiring firearms) and leave with a legally purchased gun? This is an example of Obama's idea of protecting Americans? Wake up! I may not agree with everything McCain says, but he is damn sure a better candidate than Phi Slama Obama.

Gerald Keller

The surest way to put Obama in the White House is to cast your vote for the third party candidate.Remember what happened when H.Ross Perrot boosted Clinton there. If you really want to vote for Obama or McCain, then go to the polls and vote, but Don't waste your vote on someone who has no chance of ever winning a majority.I would have preferred Ron Paul.Maybe next time.
I'll go with McCain this time, because the alternative scares me to death
