Some Political Notes

Does anyone remember Martha Mitchell? She was the wife of John Mitchell, who was Attorney General under Richard Nixon and went to prison for his involvement in Watergate. As the coverup started to unravel, Martha would get a few drinks in her and start calling newspapers with all sorts of interesting stuff about who was lying about what, and it got so bad that her husband allegedly had her sedated and kept prisoner in a motel room.
Bill Clinton seems to be rapidly going out of control, and if Hillary becomes the nominee for Vice President,  we may see Secret Service agents tailing him with a hypodermic needle. What worked on Martha Mitchell may also quiet down Bubba. It's worth a try; nothing else has succeeded so far.

****
In 1992, Clinton's opponent for president was George H.W. Bush, who was viewed by a considerable number of gun supporters as too moderate, and they withheld their votes. This contributed to eight years of Clintons in the White House. John McCain has his weak spots as far as the Second Amendment is concerned, but he is infinitely better than Obama.

****
Now that Hillary has morphed into Annie Oakley it might be helpful to see what she thought before she became the Shooter's Best Pal:

"I will work to reinstate the assault weapons ban….I will also work to make sure that police departments get access to federal information that will enable them to track illegal guns…." 4/16/08

"I believe that every new handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry…." 6/2/00

"[after Columbine] Bill and I announced a proposal to raise the legal age of handgun ownership to 21, and limit purchases of handguns to one a month."  11/1/03

****
And from Barack Obama:

"…I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right…" 4/16/08

"I think it is a scandal that this president [Bush] did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons bill." 10/21/04

Mr. Smith goes to Washington

You've got to admit one thing, Hillary had the nomination in the bag BEFORE Obama showed up. I still crackup every time I see Hillary with that look of "I'm not winning...????" You've got to admit we all owe Obama a debt of gratitude for taking her out of the running. She would have been guns owners worst NIGHTMARE!!! Bar none.

Jay

I think the folks on this blog need to be careful what they wish for. Barack Obama is far more liberal and more anti gun than Hillary Clinton.

Jim in Mo.

Amen, afraid we ain't seen nothin yet.

WA Mtnhunter

Just what part of Constituional Law did Osama study at Harvard?

Since when can State or local ordinances overide Federal law? Certainly states have exercised the ability to regulate use of firearms, but not overruling the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. The DC handgun ban resolution should clear that up, for a while anyway.

Dittos. Be careful what you wish for!

jstreet

While the SCOTUS will probably uphold the 2nd, Obama has already proven to me that while it's a person legal right to keep and bear arms, the arms he may keep will (in his eyes) be up to the government.

Second, I don't see Obama putting Hillary on the ticket. Between her and Bubba, they would steal too much of his thunder.

Regardless, McCain has his hands full as he reminds me of Nixon (in the way he handles himself in front of the teleprompter) and Obama is much more @ ease like Kennedy was in the Kennedy/Nixon contest of 1960.

I just hope McCain can put out good ideas and sell the to the majority of the American people.

He has my vote.

Jim

Gman

Oh, Obama will be no worse than the current occupant of the WH on 2A.

You guys worry too much.

FH

Sorry GMAN but Obamma is run by the Chicago Dailey Politico machine and they think that gun laws actually work i.e. look how restrictive Chicago is. He also is very confused on Taxes, he thinks they should be raised to fund more Gov programs. He is a Marxist.

dgrigz

Obama is for sure a Marxist, when hezbollah PR people say they like the guy one has to wonder. His associations sure don't seem like his "Community Activism" was sponsoring bake sales and church bazaars so that a soup kitchen could be funded. As an accountant, reviewing his taxation policies make me wonder if he even went to schools like Princeton/Harvard because they make no sense. Tell me when anyone who has studies law on the left and held office has actually tried to defend the rights and liberties that we have now as opposed to establishing new "liberty limiting regulations". Is it no small coincidence that gun ownership is not viewed with such sacredness on the left as the rights of free press are to pedophiles?

JMH

Gman, I hope that was an attempt at satire. Obama is a socialist, dictator wanna-be. Obama is an elitist, who wants to tell the rest of us how we should live (and then thank him for sharing his "wisdom"). His ideas (socialization of programs) requires social state taxes (50 to 85 % of your income). I don't think tax paying Americans can afford Obama.

Yes, I remember well how we got 8 yr of Bubba 'cause we were PO'd at Bush. Let's not repeat that poor decision and support McCain. O'bama scares the heck out of me for too many reasons to list.

Speaking of politicians, most of them should take time out today to shut their pie holes and reflect upon this day.

Taking time out here to salute the men of Operation Overlord. Most especially my Uncle Leo, a farmer, hunter and soldier.

God bless you and thank you.

Mr. Smith goes to Washington

Obama would never be my first choice but you're all missing the point. Hillary is out of the picture as President forever!!!! That's the best news I've ever heard. She is evil incarnate, period. Just having to look at her ugly mug for 4 years is scary enough. Obama, knows how to play politics. If people want guns he'll be pro-guns. We need to get the word out that we want guns. i.e. Join or renew your NRA memberships, today! Write your congressmen, senators etc. Make your opinions known. The firearms industry is one of the last successful, profitable US industries. As things get worst economically with the devalued dollar, the global economy etc. we need all the healthy US industries we can get. Other than Automobiles and firearms (and software) what do me make here?? Not much comes to mind.

"Hillary is out of the picture as President forever!!!!"

No one is ever out of a run for president forever, especially if they only lost in a primary.

How many times has Biden tried(horrible example)? Do you honestly think that if McCain is elected that in 2010 she won't have learned her lessons from 2007-2008 and make another push if she got this far? If you do, you are greatly mistaken. If she does run again, you can buy me a beer.

YooperJack

Barack Hussein Obama is an Affirmative Action candidate. Would you go to a doctor, or dentist, if the only qualification was the person's skin color? I doubt it. Yet, many people will vote for this man, solely on his ethnic background. This is insanity. He has only the minimum qualifications. He's arrogant. He can't give a speech without a teleprompter. Besides that, he thinks there are fifty-eight states.

how come no one in the media is mentioning D-Day anniversary today??? I'm with you Jack, best off topic post I've seen.

Audie Murphy

I'm voting for Obama!

I'm with Mr. Murphy. Hopefully my kids won't have to go to Iraq!

Dave Writes:

And from Barack Obama:
"…I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right…" 4/16/08

When I want to piss of some of my liberal friends who are pro gun control, I reply to them:

"I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to freedom of religion. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right."

Kind of shocks them when you target one of the constitutional rights they happent to value and put it in the same sort of jeopordy that they would impose on the 2nd Amendment. They usually begin to "get it" that the right for citizens to own firearms is a Civil Right that is as important as the right to vote, the right to security from unreasonable search and seizure, the right to an attorney in a criminal proceeding, etc etc etc.

Dr. Ralph

Time to dust off "Saving Private Ryan" and watch the first fifteen minutes... like most of our war heroes say, the real heroes are the ones who never made it home.

Strange how Martin Luther King Jr. said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" and yet Obama's character is indeed lacking and he has succeeded mainly because of people who are voting for him based on the color of his skin.

My name is a link to McCain's gun control record.

Old Bull

I tried to keep up with the one hangun a month proposal, but found I was going broke after a few months.

Andrew

Do the math Obama wants a 47-55% federal tax rate. He will raise the marginal rate to 39% from 33 and add 8-16% social security tax on all income. This would be a disaster for business and job growth. What is really scary is his motivation for raises taxes is to punish the rich not collect revenue. His global warming hysteria would regulate our economy to death and send even more job to China and India- which would cause more pollution. He and his bitter wife were handed most of what they have because of their race. Neither would have a snowballs chance in hell of admission to Harvard if the were white or Asian. I have no idea why an affirmative action project like his wife who was given access to the best college on the planet hates our country so much.

Clay Cooper

It’s going to be very interesting on how many more Obama freaks will come out of the word work as time goes nearer to Election Day! Obama either stepped in it or needs to change his shorts and man is the stench getting really rank! If I was Obama, I’d watch my back; Hillary isn’t done yet and never will be!

Clay Cooper

Dr. Ralph
Good point Martin Luther King Jr.
Interesting fact of Martin Luther King Jr, he walked with even Charlton Heston and you see how the Democrats have labeled him as the enemy. I have learned that the wicked and those that are to do wrong to others quickly call others names. They quickly label people and to claim what is not rightfully theirs to get the upper hand.
Martin Luther King Jr
Was not a Republican yet they walked with him!
Was not a Democrat yet they walked with him!
Was not a Independent yet they walked with him!
He rose above it all because he truly belonged to Gods party. His family allowed the Democratic Party to highjack his name to use it as a weapon for political and monetary gain.

Well said boys.

Don’t think any of us need worry about Hillary being VP. That woman comes with huge baggage, Bill Clinton being the biggest. As DP said Bill's an erratic, egomaniac with a big mouth. No telling what hurtful things that man would do or say given the spot light.

Last thing Hillary wants is a successful ’08 Obama Campaign and Presidency
SHE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT and she will in 2012. She would be the most disloyal, spiteful and resentful person I could ever imagine running for or being VP. ….Leaks to the Press, Anyone?????

What I believe important is the radical, conservative Right of the GOP and the radical, liberal Left of the Democratic Party are on the outs. Both wings are screaming like souls in torment now, but the People want moderates and are giving moderates a chance. This is very healthy for the country.
