A Little Light-Weapons Humor

Military-rifle humor is a pretty scarce commodity, and I thought you might get a wry smile or two out of this page from mouseguns.com. It hath the ring of truth.  My thanks to Teena Hubbard of Field & Stream Radio, who sent it.

You could throw a Kar 98 into the mix and the Mosin truths would still work. And when you're done with 8mm you can change the caliber into everything from 220 swift to 12 guage shotgun (saw one at a gun shop that looked like hell but functioned.

Bubba,
They have been compared.
Results: Money, Money, and more Money.

Thomas

Old Bull,
What section of the Mitten do you reside in? YooperJack is from the U.P. of coarse and my self I reside in the Thumb. And somewhere alone the line we have another gentleman from Muskeegon.

Could that be:
More money (Win)
Just money (Rem)
and
Ridiculously expensive (Wby)?

Troll, my dad came from Lenawee County south of Detroit and Ypsilanti and my Aunt and first cousins still have close to 500 acres of farmland there. Pheasants were in every corn and bean field back in the 60's and now they're gone and the big deer have taken their place... Beautiful state if you stay away from Detroit!

Thomas

Dr. Ralph,
I thought Lenawee county was south of Jackson around Addison and Hudson. I travel down US-127 just about every night going to Fayette, Ohio. But after looking at a county map it starts at Cement city, runs to the MI/OH border and across almost to Ottwa Lake and Milan.

Tom the Troll

Thomas

Dr. Ralph,
Sorry. Of Coarse you know where it is and runs. As you said your father is from there. As for the Deer you got that one right. I have had to restack my load a number of times because a deer ran out in front of me. I know I don't need to stop but I do not need to damage the front end of my semi. I am usually carrying close to 90,000 pounds of steel rotors for TRW in Fayette, OH. Unfortunitly my company is too cheap to get the permits so I can run through Ohio. So I have to take US-127 back and forth. It would be so much easier if I could take US-20 across to US-23. The hills on US-127 are killer when I am fully loaded.

Thomas,

I live a few miles out of a one horse town between Flint and Lansing. Durand, Shiawassee (Cornfield) County. I'm fortunate enough to be living back on the family farm where I grew up. Although, the only farming I do now is furry critters. I've spent the last 10 years planting trees and other deer type habitat. Results have been great.

Never listened to Teena Hubbard,I bet she’s a HOOT on the air! By the way, I always herd of people comparing firearms, to tell the truth, THIS ONE IS THE BEST!!

Thomas

Old Bull,
I know where Durrand is. I was there for your Railroad days last month. Gotta love them old trains. I need to go to Owosso to see that old Pere Marquette Berkshire numbered 1225. The one that they used for the model for the Polar Express. I live in Fairgrove, about 20 miles east of Saginaw or 10 miles from Caro.

Thomas

Old bull,
I am sitting at home right now watching the Red Wings on Fox 66 out of Flint. I am almost hoarse from yelling at the Tv. They are now going in to triple over time. One more goal and they have the Stanley Cup. At least we have 1 Detroit team with potential to win. Never in my life time have the Lions even come close to making it through the play offs, The Pistons can win but have their own problems. The Tigers come on strong in the beginning but can be counted on to fizzle out.

Old Bull

Tom the Troll,

My oldest daughter is the queen of the Railroad Days festival. During the interview, when asked about her interests, the first thing out of her mouth was hunting and shooting. Priceless. I raised her to be a heartbreaker and a lifetaker...
So far the local boys are still terrified as she is better armed and shoots better than all of them.
In the local paper the other night, there was an article about them firing up 1225 for some sound engineers for Lionel trains. Guess the new toys will have a sound track....
I know exactly where Akron/Fairgrove is. Years ago I worked for a construction company that built apartments all over the Thumb. (All those 8 and 16 unit buildings named after civil war generals.)

Thomas

Old Bull,
My wife's cousin's youngest daughter is like that. She has been interested taxidermy since she has been a little girl. She just graduated from High school last weekend. But anyway she has been filling her parents home with Animal mounts that she has done. And trust me there are a lot of them. From Wood Ducks, Deer, Raccoons, Mice, Fox's, and a Badger. I asked her were she got the Badger from and she said a friend of her's in Midland caught it in his trap line. I would trust her to do mount and stuff any prized boon and crocket trofie But any way she is a deadly shot with a rifle and shotgun. And I dare say that she can hold her own when it comes to Pistol also.

Tom the Troll

Old Bull

Tom,
Brings a tear to my eye....
I never had any of my critters done, but so far I have had a 10 point and a Russian boar mounted that my daughter shot. I can see a lot of pmts. to the taxidermist in my future.
I hate to brag on my kid but, (OK, I don't hate it) She has turned into a holy terror with a Ruger MK II Slabside. She takes out clay targets at 75-80 yards now. (No one ever told her that it was not possible.)
Take care, and hope you recover from the Redwings snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Dr. Ralph

Old Bull, your daughter is a shooter! I can take out blue rocks from 50 with my MKII 5 1/2" bull barrel and I thought I was good... my brother in law had a slab side which he claimed was far superior to my Ruger. Longer barrel and scope mounts, right?

Old Bull

Dr. Ralph,
Thanks! She gets downright scary with just about everything she shoots. Yes, the slabside has scope mounts. (A one piece milled out for Ruger rings.) I had a red dot on it, but she liked the iron sights better. Ah, to have 18 year old vision again...

sarg

old Bull, any of those trains happen to be Shay locomotives They are awsume with the gear drives, slow but sure can climb a mountain.. Go up to Cass, WVA. and ride old No. 5 or 6,..

Thomas

Old Bull,
I have a Ruger KMK678GC or Slabside also. I have had it for close to 15 years now. I put a red dot on it and have put 10 shots in to the size of a nickel at 50 foot. Free hand and no gun rest or support. I thought that was pretty good when I did it. But right now I am so out of practice that I would be lucky to keep them all in the scoring rings on a 50 foot slow fire target.

Tom the Troll.

P.S. How much damage did you get durring yesterdays storms? I just got my power back on at 3:00 this afternoon.
