Duck, It's Hillary!

This was apparently posted by one Fernando Suarez of CBS News. I've read it several times with a rising sense of bafflement.

"WAUSAU, WIS. -- At a campaign stop this afternoon, Hillary Clinton’s focus was on the economy and health care but some in the crowd had other things on their minds. Clinton was asked to discuss gun control which prompted Clinton to talk about her days holding a rifle in the cold, shallow waters in backwoods Arkansas.

'I’ve hunted. My father taught me how to hunt. I went duck hunting in Arkansas. I remember standing in that cold water, so cold, at first light. I was with a bunch of my friends, all men. The sun’s up, the ducks are flying and they are playing a trick on me. They said, ‘we’re not going to shoot, you shoot.’ They wanted to embarrass me. The pressure was on. So I shot, and I shot a banded duck and they were surprised as I was,' Clinton said drawing laughter from the crowd."

I am not baffled that Hillary was hunting ducks with a rifle. Hillary always looks for an edge, and maybe she wanted to shoot out past 70 yards. Or maybe it's just that Fernando Suarez doesn't know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun.

What I am baffled about is, where was the trick? It sounds to me like a bunch of older hunters giving a newcomer the courtesy of the first shot. Or maybe they knew she was a lousy shot and didn't want to handicap her with a volley going off in her ears. Also, what is the significance of the banded duck?

When last rated by the NRA/ILA, Mrs. Clinton got an F.

The odds of shooting 1 duck and it being banded are very low. Out of maybe 500 ducks taken I have collected 2 banded birds. Both were Greenheads. My duck hunting buddy has probably shot a couple thousand and he has never gotten a banded bird. Hitlery also turned $1000 into $100K when she got in the commodity market. Maybe Hill just has the Midas touch. Yeah, that's it. The Midas touch. She's also a hellava shot using a rifle for ducks. This woman excells at every thing. Someone should report her to USFG.

Any of you guys remember the photo of John Kerry walking with what appeared to be a group of upland hunters? Did you notice that his right index finger was curved around the trigger of his O/U as he made this journey with his buddies?
Like the bumper sticker says "I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy".

...and Hillary didn't know Bubba was getting "Lewinsky's" in the Oval Orifice either. Anyone who believes half of what comes out of a politician's mouth is either very naive or very stupid.

Walt Smith

I sincerly hope that Hillary loses out to Obama for the simple fact that she-he would go down in the annals of world history as the very first white person in United States history to ever lose a presidential bid for either party to a African American NEGRO which to me is simple poetic justice to remind us of the former first lady from the fine state of Arkansas. It could not get any sweeter than that.

Good point Del. I don't know when they started banding ducks but living in the Mississippi flyway I spent alot of my youth sitting behind the house in a muddy cornfield shooting ducks that bypassed the very nice (wealthy) duck clubs that bordered our house and I never shot a banded one.
Jason B. I love Boddington's stories and although I didn't read what you did I do believe his father had some money and many of his hunts are 'sponsored' so he doesn't pay a dime. Good gig if you can get it, don't begrudge him there.
Ishawooa,
Believe this or not but on that photo op. Kerrys' handlers took his gear including the brand new hunting vest back to the store for return when the 'shoot' was done.

I am struck by the fervor of the majority of long-term contributors to this blog who seem to deeply care about the education of our nation’s children based upon their comments in DP’s Meditations on the Melancholy State of Outdoor Writing (MMSOW) post. However, based upon the comments under this and past blog topics the majority will vote for a pro-gun candidate for President. I wonder if the fervent cries for better education under the MMSOW post will make the decision on who to vote for (dare I say one of the seemingly pro-education democrats) a bit more difficult? All three candidates arrive in northwest Ohio this week. It’s going be a dreadful, long week…

Didn't GWB sign something called "No Child Left Behind"? I honestly think that if public schools had to compete with private schools (ala vouchers), the quality of education would increase.

Del in Kansas and Jim in Mo.,

I’m primarily a duck hunter but have gotten three Canada geese in my life. The first I found dead on the bank of the river near my home; it had both a leg and neck band. I shot my next goose this fall. (It was a middle-class bird, i.e. no jewelry) The third goose I shot a week later and it had a leg band. Two for three isn’t bad. You may want to consider a waterfowl trip to the Great Lakes region next season. (but don’t bring Hillary or VP Cheney!)

Hey YooperJack, are you from the U.P.?

I would report her to PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals).

Although I highly suspect the story was fabricated. For one I doubt she ever took a Hunter Safety Class, two she is highly anti gun, three she is a probably a vegetarian.

Dr. Ralph,
In response to bubba getting Monica in the oval orifice. I heard he had a penchant for Cheese flavored Cigars. What a way to ruin a good cigar. The poor girl is still probably pissing tea.

Yooper Jack,

in order to stay on topic, I posted my reply to your "No Child Left Behind" comment above in the "Meditations on the Melancholy State of Outdoor Writing" thread.

I worked up there converting all the Wells Fargo banks around 8 years ago... quite a change of scenery for this Cali boy! absolutely loved the laid back folks, beautifull country, and the pasties! God what i would give one of those again.

There are a couple of Michiganers here on this Blog site that post regulary. YooperJack is from the upper Peninsula and I live out in the thumb. The two locations are as different as California is from Michigan. Yooper lives in a heavily wooded and some what hilly location of Michigan and I live in a flat farmland area of Michigan. You can see from 4 to 5 miles in all directions if you stand at a corner. I admit that Pasties are good, but they are not that common where I live. I have lived in the large city but prefer the laid back and friendliness of the country.

Sgt.Gutpile

I must say in all my travels working in over a dozen states or so, NONE were as friendly as those Yoopers! upon returning home i even caught myself saying "Oh yah, ya betcha"

I'm not fan of HRC but I'm starting to really hate the knee jerk reaction of gun guys towards Democrats. Sure, without knowing anything, if you had to pick between two candidates hoping for a pro-gun stand the Repub would be the smart choice. However, there are plenty of Dems that hunt.

I work with a couple of PACs, one is a pro-hunting PAC. I can tell you that your biggest allies are people from the opposite camp. For hunters and pro-gun people, sympathetic Dems are a prize.

Remember, it is the Bush administration that just recently undercut Heller, probably the most important 2A case in our lifetime. Bush's DOJ came in against 2A.

BTW, the author of the article used the term 'rifle'. Typical mistake by a journalist, but some poor reading comprehension by the usually sharp Mr. Petzal.

Pasties were a cornish staple, but when the Finns came over here, they added rutabaggas. Makes all the difference in the world! I could probably eat one every day.

No one has ever said that all Democrats are bad. However, the ones running for President leave a lot to be desired. My biggest concern is that there seems to be a movement in the Supreme Court to drastically alter our Constitution. A Republican will probably appoint judges who are opposed to these changes.

#1 We all know the Clintons are Satan!
#2 "Frank" All of the "rifle" or "hunting" or "gun" enthusiasts I know are JOINING the NRA if they're not already a member. All in an effort to defeat the Anti-American Democratic candidates who think the 2nd Amendment is not a part of the Bill Of Rights. You're hanging out with the wrong people if they're leaving the NRA. Russia might be a good place for your friends, maybe Cuba, I hear they have a new Dictator... Perhaps Hugo Chavez would welcome them...

Patrick my friend,
Quote, "BTW, the author of the article used the term 'rifle'. Typical mistake by a journalist, but some poor reading comprehension by the usually sharp Mr. Petzal."

The typical mistake by a journalist is one of the problems DP is talking about... DUH! These people haven't done their homework nor do they care. Hillary included.

Sure, there are some good Dems but the ones running for President are a far cry from being pro 2A. Look at their voting records. Just remember, if one of them takes the Oath of Office, they are swearing to uphold and DEFEND the Constitution. That includes the 2nd Amendment. I intend to hold them to that if elected.

Dr. Ralph

After further review it appears Fernando Suarez is the guilty party who knows not the difference between a blunderbuss and a musket... I'll still bet dollars to doughnuts this Arkansas girl has never dropped a Mallard.

Shaky

Frank; please give us your source of information on the dwindling membership of the NRA. I have been reading that statement now for the past three months, without a trace of evidence to substantiate it. According to actual records, the NRA is increasing in membership. So if you print it, back it up.
