Winchester Sport Glasses: De-Dorking the Middle-Age Gunner
A guest-written gear review by Executive Editor Mike Toth
The PR: Via a licensing agreement with Jackson Safety Products, Winchester Ammunition [www.winchester.com] is introducing a line of affordable shooting glasses. Both lenses and frames come in various colors, and models come with various features, such as interchangeable lenses, UV protection, and -- thank you, Winchester -- magnification inserts.
The Takeaway: I’m one of those 40-and-over people who needs to use those damnable reading glasses in order to see any print closer than an arms-length away. That includes, of course, all those words and numbers on shell boxes and in game-law compendiums. The Reader series of Sport Glasses, which has magnification inserts, means I will never again have to walk around a rifle range, clays course, or pheasant field wearing reading glasses under my safety lenses, which makes me feel both old AND stupid looking.
The Cost: MSRP for the Readers is only $14. Other models vary from $12 to $30, with the Elite Series costing $95.—Mike Toth
Hey Mr. Toth,
The Glasses look great!!
Does this mean we are going to have a Gear Guru Blog Back...... Peter......"Petered out" and left a bunch of us hanging. I would welcome a "Gear only" blog.

I also have an interest in a gear review section. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman I am very interested in reading about the new innovative tools available. Peter had a good one going, but apparently got bored with posting.

Ryan, He also never responded to the questions like Dave does!

Tom and Ryan: Thank you for the compliment (trust me, I got lucky with the camera). While we are not going to restart the Gear Guru page, we are planning to run gun- and shooting-sports-related gear reviews here at The Gun Nut page. You'll see more in the coming days.

Thanks for the response. That sounds great and I am looking forward to the new gear post. By having an interactive blog (Dave frequently repsonds to comments) it makes the readers feel "in touch" with the editors, bringing a magazine to life.

HOORAH! Love the idea of a "New Products" blog resurrected. I am not yet in the stage of life that I need the bi-focals, however that time is bearing down on me faster than I would like to admit. At least there is a company that is considering these things.

How exactly can I order the Winchester/Jackson Products readers. I have checked both sites and do not see how to order. They are just what my old tired eyes need.

Rick: I'm awaiting word from Winchester and Jackson Safety on exactly how to find/order the glasses. Will post the info when I get it.

Thanks Mike I appreciate it.

Where can I buy these Winchester glasses? I've looked on their site and didn't see them there. Checked a couple retailers and didn't see them there either.
