Answer: Dirty Guide Tricks, Part 1

Man, you folks are dirty … got this one right away.

Bill and Chet fell for one of the oldest dirty dodge tricks in the guide manual … the guide and his clients had obviously just finished lunch, and had tossed a half bag of crumbled potato chips overboard. It created an oily slick, and certainly turned the birds on. But there were no stripers there. Never were. The fish were up the beach. This trick bought the guide and his clients a little time, keeping Bill and Chet at bay. (Here’s the lesson: Don’t shadow guides … it’s bad form, and besides, there are plenty of other dirty tricks in the “manual.”)
