Welcome to the brand-new F&S Total Outdoorsman blog. From here on out, you can rely on this site as your online source for the best tips, tricks, and skills to help you handle whatever the wild throws your way. And while you’re here, we’ll also post updates about the latest from the Total Outdoorsman Challenge.
If you’re not familiar with the TOC, here’s a quick crash course: Every year for the last five years, F&S goes on a search for the best all-around sportsman (or sportswoman) in the country. Hundreds of anglers and hunters come out to strut their stuff in events that test their game in fly-casting, baitcasting, archery, and rifle shooting. The top 16 competitors advance to the TOC finals in September, which includes other tests like shotgun shooting, ATV maneuvering, and an endurance course. Whoever does it all the best wins $25,000, a feature in Field & Stream, and, of course, some major bragging rights.
The 2008 TOC is already well under way with the first four qualifiers complete. But there are still two more left until the finals, which means there’s still plenty of time for you to enter the challenge and compete for $25,000. In the meantime, keep checking back at this blog for expert tips, TOC updates, and, best of all, chances to win free gear. — Colin Kearns

From what I know about the TOC events ... if you competed in a TOC Qualifying event (3 skills - bait casting, archery, air rifle) and you were in the top 3 to 6 participants in scoring you should have been notified that you were qualified to compete at a Regional event like the Independence, MO. event coming up. At the Regional event you will compete in 4 skills (bait casting, fly casting, archery, and air rifle) and the top two competitors at the Regional event go on to the National TOC in Springfield.
Good Luck!
