This whole gun control thing is a big mess. It has been nurtured all these years by neurotic fusiliophobes (my word for an abnormal fear of firearms) and progressive liberals. I am also frustrated with some of the firearm owners in our ranks who agree with "sensible" gun control laws and thereby split our ranks. In my opinion a person has a natural, common law right to ownership and use of a weapon for self defense. I'm not talking about pikes, spears, or bow and arrows. I'm talking about a weapon in common use at the time. After all, who would bring a knife to a gun fight?
Most experienced criminals will employ the use of some sort of firearm in the commission of a crime and it will take a firearm to meet force with force. As an aside, I have to wonder about the credibility of the Director of the FBI after his assinine comments posted on Fox News; The director of the FBI is not happy with the Supreme Court's recent handgun ruling.
Robert Mueller says he tends to believe that "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."
This is the kind of ignorance we have to deal with despite the studies by Dr. Gary Kleck a noted criminologist that conclude otherwise.
Additionally I am not opposed to convicted felons having the right to defend themselves with the caveat that they must not have been convicted of a violent crime, and used a firearm in the commission of said crime. The previous especially if said convicted felon has repaid his/her debt to society, and is living a constructive life and the original crime (felony) was of a non-violent nature.
I could go on, but I had better stop here. (Steps off soap box)

John R.- are you saying that you want convicted drug dealers to have guns because "it's not a violent crime". I for one don't like the idea of criminals and drug dealers having guns. They've already demonstrated that they can't follow the rules and are irresponsible citizens. I have no reason to believe they'd be responsible gun owners either. I guess you want armed burglars in your house because "it's not a violent crime". Your argument makes legal gun owners look like fanatics when we need to have the next door neighbor image to fight the anti's.
