Take The “Guns At Disney” Poll
If you haven’t been following along on this, let me catch you up: First, Florida passed a new law allowing folks with concealed-weapons permits to keep firearms locked in their cars at work. Disney then circulated a memo to its employees stating that “"this law does not apply to Walt Disney World Co. owned and leased properties,” stunning backers of the new law, who said they never intended to exempt Florida's largest single-site employer. The NRA called Disney out.
And now, a Disney security guard who promised to challenged the company’s ban brought his gun to work and got himself suspended. Here's the full story on that.
Click here to take the Orlando Sentinel poll on whether Disney employees should be able to bring guns to work. Then tell us what you think of this whole business.

First; just one more in a litany of reasons to boycott Walt Disney World and anything associated with that company! Don't go see their distorted movies, don't buy them on DVD or any other media, don't buy their toys, don't visit ANY of their theme parks! In short no gun owner/hunter/sportsman should give those pukes a single one of their dollars!
However, as property owner they can specify what is allowed on their premises and what is not. Plain and simple. Unfortunately when someone is on duty at a security post or dressed in an Octopus outfit and scuttling around the grounds with the children that gun in the car is an easy target (especially if you have progun bumper stickers or similar material in view on your car. I predict that many other private companies in Florida will (or have) issue similar edicts for their private property parking lots.
I am sure I will get some heat for this but rest assured I am all for the Second Amendment and would even like to see an end to requiring permits for concealed carry. Vermont has no permit required and the country's lowest crime rate!

I would think a security guard, especially, should be allowed to have a gun. And, furthermore, who is Disney to deny FEDERAL AND STATE RIGHTS? It's a gun locked in a car, for cryin' out loud - I used to have my rifle locked in my car at school - so did half my classmates. We had exactly zero gun crimes at our school.

silver arrow said it well. Though I'd like disney employees and everyone legal to carry a gun if they wish, it'd be beyond the governments bounds to regulate private business policies.

With all due respect......WHO IN THE BLOODY HELL DOES DIZZY CO. THINK THEY ARE?!?!?
STATE LAW SAYS if you have a CCW you may carry your weapon and have it locked in your car.
Seems to me akin to "What part of shall not be infringed dont you understand?!?!"

SilverArrow is right. There has to be a balance between what is permitted and personal property rights. SA you get no heat from me...I agree!

Disney operates their business in Florida (in the USA) by choice. They - as are all of us - are subject to federal and state law. There is no exception for Disney to ignore nor violate federal or state law. Disney's rules have to be within state and federal law - the fine print of the state law determines if Disney's policy violates state law. Disney is a corporation, it does not have the rights established in the Constitution that belong to individuals. If Disney made a policy, hypothetically speaking, that violated the Civil Rights Act of 1963 - it would be attacked and struck down in the courts. This policy should be subject to the same scrutiny - and by any reasonable measure, it appears to clearly fail. I do not know who posted the post stating "it'd be beyond the governments bounds to regulate private business policies" there is no identity shown, but the government [federal and state] regulates businesses and their policies every day. The Commerce clause is the basic vehicle for that regulation, if I recall correctly. JMH

since when can a company pass its own laws to supercede those of the state or federal government. Boycott DIsney

walt wouldnt have allowed this heck hed have had a gun

Mike, JMH and r napolititano
Disney is not superceding either Federal or state laws. Corporations are accorded many of the same rights as we citizens INCLUDING the right to determine what is permissible on their private property. What does bother me is they (Disney) obviously made this edict very public to grandstand their liberals viewpoint on gun ownership and gun owner's rights. I also believe they did it to bait an employee or even group of employees to defy their edict then sue when Disney upholds it rules; Disney has VERY DEEP Pockets when it comes to defending such a suit and could conceivably 'take it all the way' to a hopefully (for them) Obama influenced Supreme Court which might negate Heller or at least parts thereof.
Like I said: Boycott Disney, ALL of Disney!

If we boycotted every company that wasn't Pro-gun we'd be sitting in caves, watching the fire flicker on the wall.
Bottom line, a private company can say yes or no to guns on their property.
Look @ it a different way. If Disney allows employees to carry and someone gets shot, who get sued? The employee and DISNEY. Maybe this isn't really anti-gun but more pro-cya (cover your a$$).

My company completely bans guns on its properties too, and I neither boycott nor quit working there. There are myriad reasons to boycott Disney, their gun stance is just one!

Silver Arrow,
I have a 7 year old daughter who absolutely loves Hannah Montana, High School Musical and most anything else on the Disney Channel.
I don't think boycotting Disney would bring much peace to my house. LOL!

Disney can get away with what ever they want, they have not paid taxes in the state of Florida for years, they promised the sunshine state that if they pursuied them they would leave Florida which would cost the state BILLIONS! They are just another business tyrant who will do what ever they want because they can.

Did somebody just mention Disney and liberal in the same sentence? This is about as far from the truth as possible. Disney leans about as far right as possible. They're anti-union, anti- minimum wage, pro-outsourcing [free market blah, blah, blah], anti-employer sponsored health care, anti-environment, anti-corporate tax, not to mention use their television shows and movies to soap box right wing morality concerning abortion, sex education, homosexuality and "traditional" American family values. I really for the life of me can't see how Disney is "grand standing their liberal viewpoints". I see them as standing up for property rights in this case. A Disney parking lot is far from public property and for all those of you who think that 2A is more important [they're equally important] than private property rights I'd say go back to Russia commie and enjoy Big Brother.

Well said, William. You've got it exactly right.
Posted by: Joel | July 10, 2008 at 10:49 AM
It's all well and good until someone pulls a gun on you over a parking space. Then we'll see how much you want people bringing guns on Disney property. It's a damn theme park for crying out loud. You really would want your family threatened? If you wanna boycott Disney, go ahead, more power to you. Good luck though because Disney also includes the Disney Stores, ESPN, ABC, many theme parks, Disney Cruiseline. Just by watching certain channels on TV you are supporting Disney.

A,
That thought train is what Liberals play on when they support "reasonable gun laws"!
Look at the problem in this direction.
You live in Florida, you are able to obtain employment at "Didnee Were", you have obtained a CHL and have to drive at least 30 minutes, one way to work.
Because Didnee won't allow you to leave your weapon locked in your vehicle, they are basically denying you the "right" to carry your weapon along the "public" thoroughfares of the state of Florida. You stop to purchase fuel and are confronted by an armed robber/carjacker. Will Didnee be there to protect you? I don't think so Scooter!!
To deny a legal (granted by state law AND the 2nd Amend.!) is as unethical as any other "unfair" law!!!
I'm afraid I'll have to agree with SilverArrow, as I DO NOT purchase ANYTHING that I can SEE that relates to Didnee!!!!
